medical records continues it s fascination with all things mark van hoen this time presenting the sole album release by autocreation entitled mettle . autocreation was formed in 1992 when mark van hoen was roomates in west london with the other members kevin hector and tara patterson. kevin and tara as dj s at the university of london, tara had recorded with the hafler trio prior to this the 3 lived in an apartment block that was full of acid house devotees, djs, and house producers. the 3 friends spent a lot of time in cutting-edge london clubs which inspired and influenced their music. a remix they worked on - seefeel s -plainsong- became the blueprint the autocreation sound, as well as feeding back into seefeel s sound on their own subsequent material. autocreation were heavily influcenced by contemporary dub techno such as basic channel, mika vanio as well as more pure techno such as kirk degiorgio and jeff mills. they recorded the album in late 1993, sandwiched between the recording of van hoen s locust album weathered well and his collaboration with seefeel s darren seymour aurobindo:involution . the album notably features heavy use of modular synthesizers (aries 300, digisound 80 and others), quite unique for a techno record of the time. the album was released on the orb s label inter-modo on cd only - directly following the orb s collaboration with robert fripp (ffwd). artwork was designed by the designers republic - responsible for the vast majority of warp records catalog and various releases by the orb. the album is a dark, brooding ambient techno masterpiece. similar in vein to locust s weathered well but more techno/idm genre compliant that made it at times dance floor compatible. for this special edition (first time on vinyl), the album is expanded to a double lp featuring bonus tracks. the jacket is a gatefold featuring a montage of photos in the gatefold. specially remastered by mark van hoen. presented on limited edition high quality double 160-gram classic black vinyl. for fans of early locust, dark ambient techno, and early 90s dance floor friendly idm.

following the success of �ride� with miss kittin, eminent sci+tec founder dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring hybrid show, dubfire is finally unleashing �dust devil�� his first solo release in several years, �dust devil� is all about precision momentum. a move that dubfire�s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. as the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back together with pure focus. this is what ali has to say� �this was an instrumental i had done that i wasn�t quite sure what to do with. it wasn�t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing, perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. so i sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the hybrid show back in the summer of 2013. once i had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. and when i happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. it was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.

fresh from the success of their �past / present / future� release, we march on, with berlin-based italian christopher ledger the man responsible for their label�s 41st release. the �percezione and retrospettiva� ep sees ledger in flying form, as he props up with two dexterous, thoughtfully executed records that speak volume of his ability to craft atmospheric sounds. opening up the release is the sounds of �retrospettiva 2�, a future leaning techno jam that again wonderfully fits the brouqade aesthetic. clearly indebted to sci-fi spheres, this one is very much cut from a detroit cloth, with a steely finesse that lurks from the get go. a track that brings the listener on an endless journey, it comes some deep harmonic vibes. all things told, this is an ep of various contrasting sounds, ledger�s debut for brouqade is a stunning example of what can happen when producers think outside the box. the b side consists of �percezione attiva�. harmonic, blissful tones abound throughout, made all the more meaningful by a slew of gentle, melancholic piano chords that really pull on the heartstrings. a light and hazy experimental piece, the track forces parallels with other masters of suspense. culminating with a more traditional 4/4 vibe, this unusual turn only enhances the producer�s standing as a man willing to take risks.

astray is the sublabel of away, berlin. away, berlin�s party series and the eponymous vinyl label celebrate the launch of its sublabel astray with the road force ep by discrete circuit. while away with previous contributions from joe claussell, mr. ties, and move d leans more to the housier side of things, astray will take a different path by taking some darker, techno-centered steps. following the idea only to release productions by both label founders, discrete circuit and h4l, as well as unique collaborations which either of them will form with outside artists, astrays second ep will premiere the joint studio work of discrete circuit and dj/producer blind observatory.

this is followed by more alluring atmospherics on �aporia�, a track that has an elastic b-line and every once in a while an enchanting melody drifts in, switching up the vibe turning things a little more dreamlike.
turn the record and prepare to embark on a �random night�. this is sonodab turning up the energy levels and taking you on a trip into another dimension to close out the ep �elecmann�, plays out like an ode to the good old electro days, slightly reminicent of juan atkins� early work as model500. like the rest of the tracks on this release, sonodab adds soft pads in places to change the mood and keep things moving.

now an essential part of the metalheadz family, artificial intelligence are back with the reprisal ep.their 2015 album on the label showed exactly what the duo are all about - blissful liquid and chunky basslines - something that was further showcased in last years shrine ep. the reprisal ep is more of the same but perhaps slightly refined, with reprisal and intimacy leading the way on the dreamy and sometimes euphoric side of things, whilst the darker sounds of sicario and force of habit transform the release into an extremely well rounded project

next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

elizabeth merrick-jefferson is one of those artists who seem low-key. theres not a lot of information about her, if any, except for the existence of the first two records and a lone interview. one released in 2013 and the other in 2014. listening to either record tells you her music might be a lot of things, but low-key isnt one of them. powerful and colourful, direct, and with 313 references embedded in its dna, she pulls it off with style. elizabeths third record is no exception. it has found its home on our mothership label, burek. three happiness is tailor-made for the dance floor. it wont leave anyone with a pulse standing. playful synths, wonderful strings, and infectious groove make it impossible to ignore. knowledge revolution is layered and paced, painting a somewhat different picture. melancholy and a sense of mystery envelop this track, whose leitmotif vocal appears just frequently enough to provide insight into the title. the last track of this ep is fittingly titled noctilucent clouds. its a drumless track with a rhythmic main synth counterpointed by sounds which give off the impression of clouds shining through the darkness of winter nights. another amazing release from burek.

after one year of high energy industrial and punk-leaning music, kess kill presents something slightly more contemplative: the vinyl debut of the swedish act grand mal x. the solna based duo started in 2010 and was first known from the cassette scene, which was also where we stumbled across their work. drawing from a long and wide palette of influences � from osho dynamic meditation and eu highways, to artists like suicide, coil and rune lindblad � their music breathes an ethereal yet catchy air, a difficult line to tread. the fact that one of the members is active at the legendary experimental ems studios in stockholm might be the reason for the unusual amount of depth and maturity, steering the music sternly away from the plainly accessible. opener �late night call� is a brooding and growling number perfect for setting the mood in any room or occasion needing an infusion of sweaty sexual energy. �speed of light�, the record�s most up-tempo song, leans towards both synth pop and electro-punk. on the flip �the trip� does the exact opposite of the opener, winding things down both emotionally and energy wise, replacing sex appeal with lithium-lined angst, not unlike alan wilder at his deepest. ending the ep is �rabbit�, an unadulterated trip down a similarly named hole for those who feel like falling. summed up it�s the most abstract but surprisingly catchy kess kill release to date, an essential beacon in grasping the label�s concept.

desiderii marginis long out of print debut album from 1997 �songs over ruins� is given a proper re-issue, carefully remastered by johan levin himself and with new artworks as cd and limited edition lp. a landmark in the genre, with it�s desolate, minimalistic and grief stricken odes to religious and spiritual burdens. a foray through abandoned ruins and a reflection on the passing of time and the impermanence of all things physical. outstanding in quality and production skills, this mesmerizing and foreboding journey is at times tranquil and melodic and also dives into more martial like percussive elements and industrial atmospheres. classics like these definitely need to be discovered still and also rediscovered, and it�s with great pleasure that we make it available once again.

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

having originally surfaced on dj deep s deeply rooted house label back in 2011, the appropriately named bleak brings his stern ekko track back into focus on his own naura label, inviting two titans of contemporary techno to do the remix business on the track. first up is skudge, who get things marching at an urgent pace with their usual knack for ear snagging sonic hooks and unrelenting kick drums. meanwhile markus suckut makes a more weighty interpretation of the track, slowing the tempo and adding all kinds of sub pressure to make for a truly killer workout. as a bonus, the original track is present on the b-side in all its mean-tempered glory.

for the past four years francesco leali kept busy running parachute alongside co-owners manfredi romano and thomas feriero, producing under different monikers and touring the globe as half of cw/a. finally back as clockwork, leali reveals a five track ep featuring some of his rugged music to date. a briery shift into foggier territories where leali explores layered sound-design and broken rhythms, something he had only hinted in his previous work. online entity depicts lealis hindrance with modern societys social networking obsession. in contrast to what these services were actually intended for, leali explains, they seem to have impacted a lot of people negatively, resulting in unnecessary resentments, misinformation and feelings of proximity when these tools can easily alienate you from reality. constantly worrying about how you want people to perceive you is absurd already, but for many of us this constant sharing has become the only way to achieve happiness, to be satisfied. in an era where all of this is getting out of hand its essential to remind yourself of the things that truly shape you as an individual. with online entity i aimed for feelings of release, mutating resentments into something positive - more physical. i imagined it as a soundtrack to an escape from these very situations. the release showcases this approach with five club-ready numbers filled with calculated, pounding drums and gloomy atmospheres, with only rare glimpses of hope scattered throughout. to round things up we mobilised fellow parachute affiliate ayarcana and serbian techno pro lag who both deliver two startling interpretations of escape sequence and rumination.

mood 24 returns with the mood series various artists. for this installment we have 4 special tracks each one to suit different styles and tastes. first up we have nima gorji with his contraction track. a groovy minimal track, repetitive but at same time brings you along through a little journey on the dance floor. dragutesku gives us a deep and dark track with special little sounds here and there to bring suspense and anticipation to this wicked track. negru has a more solid house style. 808 drums, sick sub bass and a jazz melodies. petar cvetkovic gives us some more tech house orientated sounds, simplistic drums, groovy rolling percs and a sick vox to wrap things up nicely.
